Ham Radio Deluxe V5 and HRDlog

Today I installed the newest version of Ham Radio Deluxe V5. This still beta version worked well! After I had imported the v4 logbook (a few seconds!) I uploades it to the online logbook of hrdlog.net. This online logbook is great. It can generate script to uso on your web-site or blog. On the top right of this blog you can see the status of my station, the working frequency and the Rig I am using. Under this "On Air" sign you can see the 10 last entries of the logbook.

There is also a posibility to search my logbook just by entering your call-sign end hit the "send" button. Not all of my QSO's are digital so if your callsign is not there it does not mean I never worked you. I still have to do some work on this.

If you are looking for a nice piece of software try it! It even has a DX-cluster feature and is capable of too many things. Just download and install. Have fun!

ShackCAM installed

My_webcam_130Today I installed a ShackCam. Something I always wanted but all available software was'nt freeware or could only broadcast to a dedicated website. With EyeSpyFX you can publish the video on your blog. You can see it on the right! If its dark... I'm not in the shack...duuh. CUL8ER

If you also installed a SHACKCAM let me know so I can build up a list of HAMRADIO SHACKCAMS!

Antenne idee

Dg7jx2

On request of my English speaking Blog-friends:

Still looking for an easy solution to get on the air on HF without a circus in the backyard.

Their search on the internet I came to this solution of dg7jx.

I have several of these antennas are, for 6m, 20m and 40m the often are called HAMsticks.

Go and have some tinkering to make solid mountinfg base on the skylight in the attic ... pair 1 / 4 wave radials on it and it would still have to work?

It's just an idea, but worth trying. The antennas are there and are really for mobile use, but can also be used in this way.

K42 CWR Step 10 final stage

1876_marconiThis step is to be the final of building this nice kit. The little fellow on the left started all of this, well actualy Samuel Morse did but Marconi brought it on the air.

Be carefull not to scratch the nice painted chassis! Remember tight is tight on te bolt and nuts. I am verry pleased about the results, as I may say....

Next is to test it live....hope bands are open tonight!

Some pictures before closing it all...

K42 CWR Step 9

Homepage_4Now it's time to attach the rotary encoder. First you have to cut 5 wires. 2 of 1 inch and 3 of 2 inches long. As we Europeans are metric .... I draw two lines on the building placemat to be sure they aren not too short... ;-)

Nice music isn't?

The test is easy. Hook up the keyboard and power and turn the rotery encoder. The WPM is displayed in the left corner of the LCD.

Now it's almost done. Here are some pictures.

K42 CWR Step 8

Homepage_3Step 8 we will connect the LCD Display to the mainboard. Please "RTFM" twice before screwing one bolt to another like I did! Get the washers and studs in right order and tighten hand-tight! See for yourself:

To test the LCD siply apply power and we should see some activity on the display....

We can go on now...

K42 CWR Step 7

Homepage_2

Step 7 is all about the LCD Display. Please take your time to align the connection otherwise it would not fit properly later in the casing.

K42 CWR Step 6

Homebrew_logoAs you have noticed there is no test after step 5. We can test the AF filter if the PSoC processor is intalled. This PSoC-thing have a 690 Hz hard-coded filter so some experience in tuning is required. Also in the test procedure a frequency generator is mentioned.... oh brother I don't have this piece of testing equipment! Lets try to hook it up to the Icom IC-706 and keep the fingers crossed... If the audio level is to low there is nothing to see but at a audio level to high it goes in overload and the most right LED will lit.

But first we heve to solder this PSoC-thing onto the board. It comes with a 8 pin socket so no worry we will damage the microprocessor with the hot iron.

So the PSoC-thing is in place... lets test....

So up to step 7 then...
